Victor Bethea is a creative communications major at Delaware County Community College with a plan to transfer into creative advertising at Temple University. He was recently interviewed by Internet show producer Andrew Olanoff to get his insights on using an innovative recruiting tool called StudentProspector to help him find college programs.
StudentProspector Really Works
StudentProspector allows students to fill out a short survey and have college recruiters search for and recruit them, potentially even offering them a scholarship. Victor has a StudentProspector profile and has witnessed this process work: he has been contacted by interested schools. He finds the system very easy to use, and it took him only five minutes to fill out a profile, which he is currently using to help him find a great study abroad program.
Victor often suggests that his friends use StudentProspector because it is easy and effective, and since it only takes a few minutes to create a profile, it can't hurt. Students can use it in different ways, but he likes that he is able to "set it and forget it" and just start getting contacted by schools, although he did update his profile a month ago, and Drew reminded him that it's important to jump on the site every so often and see if new fields have been added that can help make him more visible to his ideal schools.
There Is Nothing to Lose
"There are no downs to signing up with StudentProspector," Victor says in the interview. "You sign up and you don't have to worry about them selling your e-mail address to some other company. You don't get all these weird e-mails, you just get schools...They are trying to recruit you as a student."
He goes on to say, "They don't even ask too personal questions. It's like GPA, what school am I at, what school do I want to go to, things like that."
So it doesn't take much time, it's not that intrusive and, by the way, it's entirely free. Sounds like more students should follow Victor's lead and create their own profile on StudentProspector.
