Protecting your privacy online is a main concern at Educational Directories Unlimited, Inc. The following Educational Directories Unlimited privacy policy informs how we respect your privacy and protect any information you may provide us while visiting our site or utilizing any of our services.
Educational Directories Unlimited, Inc. (EDU) allows full access to our online information free of charge and without requiring registration. Users may opt to register with Educational Directories Unlimited, Inc. through our StudentProspector.com service. This service allows prospective students to store profiles on our servers. Profiles can then be submitted to educational institutions as the user chooses. Profiles may also be accessed by educational institutions and related businesses, according to the preferences selected by the user and stored with the profile.
What information is collected
Information collected may include, among other things, your name, physical address, e-mail address, phone number and other information about yourself. We may also ask for information such as your age, citizenship, how you plan to fund your education, details of your academic and work history, and your preferences about your educational future.
How information is collected
All personal information is gathered directly from users through online registration forms. Only you can modify your profile once it has been created.
Personal information collected about you may be utilized for the following purposes:
- To allow students to contact institutions of higher education and related businesses;
- To allow institutions of higher education and related businesses to contact students;
- To provide information or services you have requested;
- Servicing your account;
- Improving our services;
- Developing and/or having you informed of additional products or services we think will be of interest to you;
- Answering questions you may have.
- To inform winners of sweepstakes which we run on occasion.
Options
We have created several options on how your data is handled from which you may choose. Each option has its own level of privacy. These options are described below:
1) SEND DATA ONLY: Users who opt not to register with EDU use our system only to send inquiries. While data is stored in our database, it is not accessible to anyone other than EDU staff. In this case, EDU personnel will only use this data in aggregate with other users' data for reporting purposes. When a user selects this option, their personal information will never be accessed by any third party. Likewise, users who opt not to register will not be able to access their own profiles.
2) STORE DATA ON OUR SERVER, BUT ONLY SEND IT TO SCHOOLS YOU SELECT: Your profile may be utilized by EDU to service your account and inform you of EDU services, but will not be shared with any third parties other than those who you choose. When you choose this option for your profile, your messages and profile information will be sent by email to educational institutions which you choose. Your data will be stored on our server so that you will be able to re-send it to other schools which you choose in the future. You are also able to edit and update your data.
3) STORE DATA ON OUR SERVER, AND MAKE IT AVAILABLE ONLY TO ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS: Your profile may be utilized by EDU to service your account and inform you of EDU services. When you choose this option for your profile, your messages and profile information will be sent by email to educational institutions which you choose. Your data will be stored on our server so that you will be able to re-send it to other schools which you choose in the future. You are also able to edit and update your data. Your data may also be reviewed and accessed by other academic institutions which may contact you in an effort to recruit you to attend their institution.
4) STORE DATA ON OUR SERVER, AND MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS AND RELATED SERVICE PROVIDERS: Your profile may be utilized by EDU to service your account and inform you of EDU services. When you choose this option for your profile, your messages and profile information will be sent by email to educational institutions which you choose. Your data will be stored on our server so that you will be able to re-send it to other schools which you choose in the future. You are also able to edit and update your data. Your data may also be reviewed and accessed by other academic institutions which may contact you in an effort to recruit you to attend their institution. This option also allows related businesses (i.e. test prep services, loan providers, and other businesses deemed appropriate by Educational Directories Unlimited, Inc.) to access your profile and to contact you and let you know about their products and services.
Accessibility of Profiles
Users who choose option (3) or (4) above are allowing their profiles to be searched by recruiters who pay for access to our database. It is our intention to give access to our database only to paying recruiters and clients, but cannot guarantee that others will not, without our consent, access this data. You may remove your profile from our database at any time, however recruiters and others who have gained access to the data, may have already saved a copy of your profile. We are not responsible for the retention, use or privacy of profiles in this situation, or while profiles are stored in our database.
Correction of information/Accessibility of information
We provide users with 24 hour access to their personal information after it has been collected. You may also wish to amend or correct inaccuracies on information provided; Information can be accessed through our password protected access facility at http://www.StudentProspector.com/sign-up.html. If you wish to have your profile deleted from our server, you should contact support@studentprospector.com. Removal from the EDU server does not guarantee that your profile will be removed from third party records. Any information gathered is to the best of our knowledge collected lawfully and fairly through our website, all information is assumed accurate and up to date and only information which is adequate and not excessive to our purpose for collection is obtained.
Children under 16 years of age
Educational Directories Unlimited, Inc. does not intend to collect information from children. All profiles stored are for those stating their age to be 16 years or older.
Aggregate Information about our users
We routinely gather information about the use of our web sites by all of our users collectively. Our server logs provide us with information such as what pages are being visited most, what domains our visitors are coming from (i.e. aol.com), when our servers are busiest, and what websites are referring users to us. This information helps us to improve our services and to evaluate our marketing efforts. We only use such data anonymously and aggregately. This information may be shared with third parties, but only in the aggretate.
Cookies
We use cookie technology within our StudentProspector.com site. We use cookies for remembering user names and passwords and for tracking click streams. This allows you to send inquiries to multiple institutions without the need to re-enter your username and password each time. We do not utilize cookies to track your activities in any other way. Cookies cannot obtain personally identifiable information such as your e-mail address, or any other information stored on your hard drive. Cookies are pieces of data normally stored by your browser, and you can quite easily prevent cookie data from being sent by adjusting your browser settings, however our StudentProspector.com service will not function properly if Cookies are not enabled.
Information protection and security
When you submit your information to Educational Directories Unlimited, whether it be your name, address, email or phone number, we do our utmost to ensure that information is protected against loss, misuse, alteration, destruction or unauthorized access. Educational Directories Unlimited uses standard encryption tools such as SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to help protect your personal information and to keep information collected secure.
Encryption can be used after your data has left your internal system. Encryption renders your data unreadable using a mathematical formula known as the key. Your data is turned back into readable form, i.e. deciphered, by applying the correct key.
Due to the nature of this technology, there is always a remote danger of information interception no matter what barriers are in place.
Our system does provide for profiles to be sent via un-encrypted email, and may be susceptible to intercept at this point.
Employees within Educational Directories Unlimited with access to your information provided are instructed to utilize such information only in adherence to this Privacy Policy. Employees who utilize information for any reason other than the reasons stated within this policy may be subject to reprimand or even legal proceedings.
Third parties which access your data are instructed and agree to utilize such information only in adherence to this Privacy Policy, however EDU is not responsible for the actions of third parties.
Our web sites also contain links to other sites. The privacy policies of linked sites may differ from those of EDU.
